Perfect yards for raised beds
Most Lakewood homes were built on similar lot sizes with open, level backyards. Flat ground and lots of sun mean fewer site-prep headaches and more room for beds. We often fit four to six raised beds plus a row of fruit trees along a fence line in a standard Lakewood yard.
A warmer summer garden
Lakewood sits a little farther from the ocean than coastal Long Beach, so summer days run warmer. That is great news for tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, cucumbers, squash and melons. We set drip timers for the hotter weeks and plan a fall changeover to lettuce, broccoli, carrots and peas once temperatures drop.
Lawn to garden conversions
Many Lakewood clients want to replace thirsty lawn with something useful. We can build beds right on top of existing turf with a weed barrier layer, add gravel or mulch paths, and turn a high-water lawn into a productive, water-smart edible garden.
